Nurses fired over patient privacy breach
Two Vancouver Island nurses have lost their jobs after peering into the private files of more than 100 patients. Investigators say they did it for no other reason than to satisfy their personal curiosity. School of Communication and Culture Prof. David Black says stories like this are likely here to stay.
"Curiosity is, of course, an eternal thing," Black says. "People are always tempted by the power that their role may allow them with respect to learning about, say, the medical information of celebrities, or friends, or family."
