Ex-Pickton investigator shattered by policing culture in Metro Vancouver
Master of Arts in Professional Communication student Lori Shenher is a former Vancouver Police Department detective who was the first detective assigned to investigate a rise in women reported missing in the downtown eastside.
She wrote a book on the subject, That Lonely Section of Hell: The Botched Investigation of a Serial Killer Who Almost Got Away, which was published last week. The book details incompetence regarding the missing women case.
Shenher was interviewed by The Province about her work on the investigation.
“There’s a culture in policing that’s in desperate, desperate need of reform because good people doing good work — it should make more of a difference than it does,” says Shenher. “I think I was just so shattered by the institution itself, and the lack of institutional and systemic support for my investigation.”
Shenher was also interviewed on CBC Radio’s The Current and APTN on the same topic.
